Shadow and Memory: Ellis Island's Unrestored Buildings

June 24 - August 1, 2010

Featuring the work of photographer Christopher Barnes, this exhibition includes photographs from the 1980’s when the hospital buildings stood empty, abandoned and deteriorated; historic photos; and Mr. Barnes' recent work documenting the process to stabilize them, undertaken by Save Ellis Island, Inc., the National Park Service partner for the adaptive reuse for these structures.  Once the largest US Public Health Service hospital in the country, constructed to treat ill and infirm immigrants, the buildings are slated to become the Ellis Island Institute and Conference Center.

Slip into your finest and step into the Morris Museum’s galleries to experience a major shoe exhibition featuring more than 250 pairs of shoes.  The Shoe Must Go On! explores centuries of shoe design, and present shoes from many different “walks” of life.The exhibition explores more than fifteen themes and features footwear of distinguished individuals who share a special connection to the state of New Jersey, including Governor Chris Christie and Thomas Edison, among others.

Valeri Larko: Two Decades

Valeri Larko has spent more than twenty years painting urban and industrial landscapes on location primarily in New Jersey and New York. This mid-career survey features a broad range of works from the earliest, painted on-site in Jersey City, up to the present, painted in the outer boroughs of New York City.

Forty-nine exquisite examples of late 20th Century art glass, featuring imaginative bowls, vases, paperweights and platters as well as fanciful pieces which are purely decorative in intent. Artists represented include Dale Chihuly and Dan Dailey.
