July 10 – 14

Art Experiences – Nina Nemeth
Ages 6-12+

Continue to explore and experiment with visual art techniques in a variety of mediums through engaging projects and hands-on activities. Weekly projects will involve pastel, watercolor painting, drawing and collage. You may even have a chance or two to sketch directly from items on exhibition in the museum!  If you were in any of the previous More Art Experiences classes, come see what new adventures are in store for you. The possibilities are endless, and there are always new projects to enjoy!

Discovering Great Artists – Nina Nemeth
Ages 6-12+

This course will introduce Art History to children through a hands-on integrated artist study. Students will be exposed to a variety of art techniques and styles while learning about famous artists such as Picasso, Degas, Monet, Kandinsky, O’Keeffe, and more!

Art Around the World – Kelly Bogucz
Ages 6-11

Travel around the globe through time in the world of art! Using a variety of mediums – pencil, water color, acrylics, pastels, collage, and more – explore and recreate the arts of the world in your own unique style. We will look at African masks from one of the museum’s collections, Australian bark paintings, the calligraphy and paintings of Chinese scrolls, the intricate beauty of Arabic lettering, and the meditative Tibetan Mandala. Learn the history and culture that surround these art forms as we recreate them! Bring a sketchbook!

Drawing on Animation – Kelly Bogucz
Ages 8 – 13

Explore the origins of animated movies and TV shows. Try your hand at the old styles of animated characters and move along the time-line to contemporary ones. Develop colorful backdrops for your story to create a cartoon atmosphere. Make your very own storyboard and illustrated storybook. Sample a computer application that designers use today to make your own virtual character (free open-source software that you try out on the computer in class, and download on your computer). Bring a sketchbook!

July 24 – 29

Fun with Polymer Clay – Francesca Pelaggi
Ages 7-12

Children will work with both polymer clay, which comes in an array of colors and air dry clay which will be painted with acrylic paints. Students will learn hand molding  techniques and to work with various tools to sculpt animals, fantasy figures, space ships, flowers, beads for jewelry or just about anything that their imaginations can create.

July 31 – Aug 4

Mixed Media Collage – Nina Nemeth
Ages 7-12

Explore some of the many mixed media methods using various tools – you might use paint, you might use “bleeding paper,” maybe ink, or collage materials from any number of sources! Enjoy eye-opening classes viewing demos and receiving instruction in different mediums and methods to create a unique work of art.

Water Color Week – Nina Nemeth
Ages 7-12

Explore basic techniques of the medium, such as controlled wet-into-wet painting, color theory, value, and the elements that make a good watercolor painting. Learn about perspective of various shapes, and color mixing from the primary colors, while working on various compositions. If weather permits, we might even paint out-of-doors!

Aug 7 – 11

Making Masterpieces in Acrylic – Francesca Pelaggi
Ages 7-12

Each day kids will follow along as they learn a step by step technique creating their own masterpieces of the featured artist and/or movement of the day. Covered artists include Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Winslow Homer. Movements include Modernism and Pop Art.

Aug 14 – 18

Let’s Draw Exotic and Endangered Animals – Kelly Bogucz
Ages 6-12

Learn to create birds and various other animals with an array of textures and mediums. The animals displayed in the museum will be your inspiration as you learn how to bring these creatures “to life” with line, value, and texture.  Bring a sketchbook!
