Mike Davis: Bix Beiderbecke’s Birthday Bash
Cornetist Mike Davis returns to conjure up the soundworld of Bix in a way that only he can in our annual tradition remembering one of the earliest great jazz improvisers. Mike, who is one of the foremost Bixian players in the country, leads this tribute which includes songs recorded by the Wolverines, Jean Goldkette and his Orchestra, Frank Trumbauer and his Orchestra, and Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra.
A few familiar tunes during the evening will include:
- Riverboat Shuffle
- Singin’ the Blues
- Blue River
- I’m Comin’, Virginia
- Rockin’ Chair
Mike will also speak about Bix’s friendship with Hoagy Carmichael, who wrote “Rockin’ Chair” and his lasting influence on Hoagy.
