Oceania Arts
from the Permanent Collection
Over the past century, the Morris Museum acquired and displayed objects that celebrate the diversity of world cultures and honor the skill of artisans whose works speak to our shared humanity. Oceania is one geographic region represented in our permanent collection, with significant gifts and entire collections donated between the 1920s and 1990s.
Recent acquisitions on view in this gallery were made for the tourist market and purchased at trading posts in Papua New Guinea about twenty years ago. These gifts complement our historic collection of woven, braided, carved, and painted works designed by South Pacific Ocean communities.
