AutomataCon is a convention that brings together automaton enthusiasts from around the world. Not only for automaton makers and collectors, the convention invites the public for an engaging, fun, and informative exploration of all automata — moving sculptures that imitate life.
AutomataCon will showcase a diverse range of programming designed to cater to all enthusiasts and newcomers. The convention’s keynote speaker, Kathleen Maher, Barnum Museum Executive Director, will lead a presentation that delves into the career and oddities of P.T. Barnum including his fascination with moving figures.
Another highlight is the Kinetic Artists Panel: The Creative Process — Secrets Revealed! This engaging session will feature renowned artists Cecilia Schiller, Tom Haney, and Bradley Litwin, who will share their insights and expertise on creating kinetic art. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to delve into the minds of these talented individuals and gain a deeper understanding of the art form. For those interested in exploring exceptional collections, collector Richard Garriott, President of the Explorers Club, will lead An Explorer’s Tour of Special Pieces from His Collection. Author and historian Elizabeth King will speak on topics related to her book Miracles and Machines: A Sixteenth-Century Automaton and Its Legend. King’s extensive knowledge and captivating storytelling will transport the audience back in time, unraveling the mysteries surrounding this remarkable automaton.
Event attendees will be invited to indulge in some of the best food trucks in NJ. Purveyors include Jersey Rollz, The Brownie Bar Café, and Flirty Desserts and they will be on-site at the Morris Museum on Saturday & Sunday from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm.
