About Carolyn Dorfman

Choreographer, master teacher, and founding Artistic Director of Carolyn Dorfman Dance (CDD), is known for creating evocative works that reflect her deep concern for the human condition. Her powerfully expressive contemporary dances invite audiences to connect to our shared humanity—building understanding, empathy, and unity across perceived divides.

Hailed as the consummate storyteller, Dorfman—herself a child of Holocaust survivors—has developed a celebrated body of work that honors her Jewish heritage, embracing its struggles and triumphs, its treasured individuality, and its universal resonance. Her interdisciplinary and intercultural approach, both onstage and in the community, weaves together the rich tapestry of human experience, tradition, and story.

Now celebrating more than four decades of dance and touring nationally and internationally, her stunning, multiethnic company performs in major theaters, festivals, universities, and alternative venues across the globe.

At the heart of CDD’s immersive artistic and educational programming is DEPTH – Dance that Empowers People to be more Human—affirming the power of dance as a metaphor for life’s delicate balance: the individual and the community existing in harmony and peace.
