Nimbus presents ANIMA, the culmination of a ten-year collaboration between Nimbus’ award-winning Artistic Director, Samuel Pott, and acclaimed, multi-faceted composer Qasim Naqvi. This powerful evening of dance that confronts our most urgent and timeless connection: humankind’s relationship with the natural world. Comprising three visceral works: Patch of Turf (2015), Falling Sky (2019), and Dark Water (2025), the evening probes the fragile and complex balance between humanity and environment – increasingly dissociated and ultimately inseparable.

In connection to the current exhibition Perennial Land, this performance will feature video work by Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger as part of the piece Falling Sky.

Audiences are invited to experience an interactive pre-show installation featuring students from Morris Knolls High School’s Performing Arts Academy who perform improvisational movement sequences and striking plastic sculptural elements from Falling Sky. Beginning in the lobby, this immersive demonstration draws spectators into the world of ANIMA, establishes the evening’s vital dialogue between humanity and nature, and ushers in the performance. Movement installation begins at 7:45 PM in the Entrance Pavilion.

About Nimbus Dance

Nimbus Dance is known for its physically astounding and visually captivating aesthetic. Founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Samuel Pott (former soloist of Martha Graham Dance Company), the Jersey City-based company masterfully bridges world-class performances and community engagement. Nimbus creates powerful dances that captivate audiences of all ages and interests with dances that are narrative and relatable. Pott and his dancers capture resonant and timely topics with refreshing honesty, witty humor, and an enduring optimism.

Nimbus’ unique style is lauded for its versatility, described as “splitting the difference between traditionalism and modernism… pivoting from ballet to Broadway to Beyoncé in a few beats” (Tris McCall, Jersey City Times). With an international company of dancers, Nimbus reaches 16,000 people annually, performing throughout the NJ/NY area and nationally, including with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood.
