Manet’s portraits rarely receive such close attention as they do in this exquisitely crafted, insightful film presented by art expert Tim Marlow. Manet’s portraiture comprised about half his work, bringing family, friends, and the literary, political, and artistic figures of the day to life on canvas.

The film offers a detailed, well-constructed biography of Manet and a delightful portrait of 19th-century Parisian society. The viewer is given a rare behind-the-scenes look at the preparation and curation of a major exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts dedicated to one of the greatest artists of all time. The film also features bonus extras, including deleted scenes and an interview with the director.
