Nimbus Dance returns to the Bickford Theater with a program of dances perfect for lovers of dance and music. Morris Knolls High School students will join Nimbus’ dancers in Samuel Pott’s endearingly slapstick “Roseification” set to the spunky music of Valerie Coleman. The program includes several joyful performances to music by New Jersey composer Paquito D’Rivera and iconic Jazz songstresses Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone. Nimbus rounds out the evening with the final preview performance of Pott’s modernization of “Firebird” set to classic Stravinsky score which will premiere with the New Jersey Symphony at New Jersey Performing Arts Center just weeks later.
Nimbus Dance is known for its physically astounding and visually captivating aesthetic. Founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Samuel Pott (former soloist of Martha Graham Dance Company), the Jersey City-based company masterfully bridges world-class performances and community engagement. Nimbus creates powerful dances that captivate audiences of all ages and interests with dances that are narrative and relatable. Pott and his dancers capture resonant and timely topics with refreshing honesty, witty humor, and an enduring optimism.
Nimbus’ unique style is lauded for its versatility, described as “splitting the difference between traditionalism and modernism… pivoting from ballet to Broadway to Beyoncé in a few beats” (Tris McCall, Jersey City Times). With an international company of dancers, Nimbus reaches 16,000 people annually, performing throughout the NJ/NY area and nationally, including with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood.
