Discover creativity and connection in this engaging two-hour workshop at the Morris Museum! We welcome participants ages 16 and older, from beginner artists to those with intermediate experience.

Begin with a tour of the Main Gallery, led by sculptor Valerie Huhn and Bryant Small, Curator of New Sculpture/New Jersey. Discover innovative perspectives on sculpture and delve into Valerie’s artistic journey through an exploration of her body of work.

Then, head to our garden-level classroom, where Valerie will guide you through the hands-on process of fingerprint stamping and embossing—the same techniques she uses in her fingerprint sculptures. Under her Valerie’s guidance, you’ll create your very own unique fingerprint artwork to take home.

“I use the fingerprints of my right index finger as marks of existence and marks of individual identity. My work addresses inclusivity and acceptance of uniqueness, together with a celebration of all peoples. Some of the materials I employ also reference surveillance of marginalized communities within society. This work represents our shared histories from ancient times to the present through fingerprints as mark-making. By employing a multiplicity of fingerprints, I strive to create work that can reflect the lives and spirit of everyone.”

—Valerie Huhn

No prior experience or supplies are necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment! Through this art-making experience, you’ll develop your own visual language and discover powerful ways to express solidarity and unity within your community. Join us for a day of artistic exploration and connection!
